50 Blues Guitar Licks You MUST Know – Lick #14: Sliding Double-Stops – Jeff McErlain

FULL COURSE: su.pr More guitar lessons: www.truefire.com On Twitter – http On Faceboook – www.truefire.com At some point your’re gonna wanna run up a scale with guns a blazin’ and end the assualt with a screaming bend for good measure. When doing so, it’s even better when the run towards the ending bend is based on a numeric sequence such as the one that resides in this next lick based out of D Aeolian. Starting out with some pummeling palm-muted picking, this lick delivers the raw power and climatic anticipation to do the job right.

50 Blues Guitar Licks You MUST Know – Lick #9: Hot Shot – Jeff McErlain

FULL COURSE: su.pr More guitar lessons: www.truefire.com On Twitter – http On Faceboook – www.truefire.com When you hear the word “blues” and think major, you’re really thinking Mixolydian. The b7 that separates Mixo from major is what gives all forms of blues it’s raw toughness! While everyone who’s ever slung a Les Paul to the floor and cranked a Marshall has ridden the Mixolydian express, a great player to start looking for lick ideas with this sound is southern blues’s living legend, Dickie Betts. Making full use of the intervallic sugar and spice between the 3rd and b7, you Betts this lick hits hard.

50 Blues Guitar Licks You MUST Know – Lick #45: What Was That? – Jeff McErlain

Everyone from the usual suspects (Satch, Vai, Eddie) to the not-so-usual (Bumblefoot, David Fiuczynski, Vernon Reid) have pushed and pulled their way through to some very cool sounding licks courtesy of this approach. Once mastered, you’ll quickly see how this idea will easily turn heads when executed correctly.

Guitar Lesson: Blue Note Era – Soul Jazz

www.creativeguitarstudio.com Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio presents a guitar lesson in Fingerstyle Guitar… Q: Hello Andrew, I’d say that I am an intermediate to semi-advanced player and I’ve just discovered a guitarist named Kenny Burrell. I was wondering what he is playing over basic blues changes, because there seems to be jazzy sounds mixed in. He has a simple style, but he makes it swing and sound like jazz when he plays over say a 12-bar blues. I’ve read about this being called “The Blue Note” sound, however I am baffled by how players do this. Can you please make a lesson discussing what scales and musical concepts are involved with getting this Blue Note Sound. – Norman — London, England A: The Blue Note sound is part of a very soulful group of recordings released in the late 1950’s to mid- 1960’s. And, two of the big names on guitar back then were definitely Kenny Burrell, as well as, a New York based guitarist named Grant Green. Now this style is part of what is commonly known of as Soul Jazz. The complete lesson article for this video will be available on the Creative Guitar Studio website shortly. 50 Blues Guitar Licks You MUST Know – Lick #20: Honeybeez – Jeff McErlain

FULL COURSE: su.pr More guitar lessons: su.pr On Twitter – www.twitter.com On Faceboook – www.truefire.com Face it–we love to play in E minor and so does your guitar. With a 22 fret neck there’s E’s abound ranging from the open low E string for raucous riffing all the way up to the screaming whole step bend from D to E on the first string at the neck’s highest fret. This lick ends end with that climatic string stretcher, but not before it scrambles through some single string ascending three-note patterns at blazing speed.
