I suggest beginners use a thinner pick (labout 0.48mm), you could also try turning your wrist slightly as you strum up so the pick does not “dig in”. I also suggest that you don’t try and strum too hard, be gentle with it. Stumming 4 strings just takes a bit of practice.
nice lesson mate
i am a (very new) beginner and am still getting to terms with learning basic chords
do you have tips on how to strum upwards, it feels as if the plec is trying to fly off (it sometimes does)
seem to be hitting the bottom string too heavy
also switching constantly from strumming 4 strings to 6 is hard as well
thanks in advance
Crackin mate…i can play most things when someone says “look it starts on D you dope” etc this saves me hours of buggering about by ear..thanks again mate…excellent lesson.

Thankyou very much for the awesome comment I really appreciate it. The reason I don’t sing along at the end is because my buddy Vince does most of the singing not me, eventually we will do covers of all of the lessons on our covers channel so u can check them out there.
Hey James.
AAA+++ I have learned most of my limited guitar skills on youtube, and must say you are bare none the best teacher I have ran across. I am blown away. The only suggestion I have is that I get confused about the words sometimes, where they start , where they are in the chord changes, etc. My suggestion is that you teach just as you have been then when you play through the song at the end go ahead and sing along so we can see where the changes tke place.
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it!!!! As for short fingers, I have heard plenty of people tell me that, but never yet seen anyone with short fingers, I have taught 8 year olds to play full size guitars no problem. It is really just a matter of the muscles in your hand getting used to stretching out to form the chords, I had the same problem when I first started and overcame it with just practicing. You can tune your guitar down a half step (or even a full) and then use a capo on 1st (or 2nd
hey guys i’ve watched almost all your cover videos – you’re pretty kick ass. i was wondering if you had any tips for me coz i have kind of short fingers and it makes it pretty hard to reach all the way across the neck of the guitar to play some chords. any protips?
hey thanks for your video. my mom said she’ll buy me a full size acoustic if i can learn to play this, so i guess in advance thanks for the amazingy explained video :]

Tunning down and using a capo allows you to play the closer spaced frets, I personally don’t do this with beginners but it is an option.
